There are some traditions for the beginning of the year. One of them is a visit to Frankfurt for Heimtextil. The trends there are always great. This time the f focus of the trend show was on the relationship between science and design. I never thought I would be the type to say science is beautiful, but I do.
Ethical ways to make textiles or fashion are in greater demand all the time. Dyeing has been one of the problems in the textile business, dyes are often toxic for people and nature, and dyeing uses a lot of water anyway. Designer and researcher Natsai Audrey Chieza have created new methods to colour fabrics with dyes produced by bacteria. Mind blowing as well as beautiful. She is also collecting a bank for different colours obtained with bacteria, the same way they collect a seed bank. So many things happening now with textiles. Materiaalien värjääminen tekstiiliteollisuutta varten on ongelmallista. Värit ovat usein myrkyllisiä, ihmisille ja ympäristölle. Lisäksi värjäämisprosessissa kulutetaan usein paljon vettä. Suunnittelija ja tutkija Natsai Audrey Chieza on kehittänyt uudenlaisia metodeita värjätä silkkiä bakteerien tuottamien värien avulla laboratoriossa petrimaljassa. Huikeaa ja huikean kaunista.
