The fashion weeks have been running again in New York, London, Milan and Paris. Great to see new collections from the favourite designers. Inspiring colours, shapes and styles. A lot of talent, huge amount of working hours behind the collections and it will be history already in a few months time. Ongoing cycle of fashion never stops. Having been a designer myself you mingle simultaneously with three seasons. The current season in the shops for the consumers is basically past history, the sales of the next one have started and the designers are starting to create new collections already. So last season – a phrase I don´t understand. Quality, beauty and style are far more interesting than the ”it” product of the season. Good style looks as nice and are as wearable in a few years time and the season after that. Some garments rest for a while before they come out again and get mixed with something new. Buying one or two nice, usually slightly too expensive pieces for the budget per season ends up in a good quality wardrobe, acquired little by little over the years. Following pictures are a Dries Van Noten dress from 4-5 seasons ago, Paul Smith brogues two years ago and a Yamamoto leather jacket from the beginning of the 90s.
Muotiviikot ovat taas ohi maailmalla. Aina yhtä mielenkiintoista nähdä lempisuunnittelijoiden uudet kokoelmat. Inspiriroivia värejä ja muotoja. Paljon lahjakkuutta ja hirveä määrä työtä, joka on historiaa muutaman kuukauden päästä. Kiertokulku ei koskaan lakkaa. Olin edellisessä elämässä vaatesuunnittelija itsekin. Kolme sesonkia pyörii päällekkäin. Kaupoissa olevat mallistot tuntuvat kaukaisilta. Uusi kokoelma on myynnissä asiakkaille ja kolmatta aletaan suunnitella täydellä tohinalla.
Kertakäyttömuoti ei ole kiinnostavaa. Laatu, kauneus ja tyyli eivät ole sesonkisidonnaisia. Kaunis vaate toimii parin vuoden päästä yhtä hyvin kuin nytkin. Joku tuote lepäilee vaatekaapissa ja pääsee taas käyttöön myöhemmin uudella tavalla yhdistettynä. Ostamalla yhden tai kaksi, vähän liian kallista vaatetta per sesonki, päätyy pikkuhiljaa omistamaan yllättävän toimivan vaatekaapin.
